Villanova: It’s tradition for Champions and the Villanova Wildcats earned the right to cut down the nets Monday night after leading a 77-74 score against North Carolina. They bring home a trophy after winning the NCAA championship for the first time since 1985
Shortly after half time, the game was tied 74 with only 4.7 seconds left, and sure enough Jenkins shot went in, finishing with 14 points. This adds to the title Villanova won in 1985 when Rollie Massimino led Villanova to victory.
Following the victory, fans poured out into the streets in celebration in Bryn Mawr, in Radnor Township, Pa. and for the most part, the celebrations ended peacefully with only nine minor arrests made, and minor injuries. There was some pickets of incidents by the stadium that police handled and was able to prevent escalation right away.
This is the first time since 1985 Bryn Mawr experienced a street celebration that was in full force.
The team, which played in North Carolina, is scheduled to return to Philadelphia by plane and are scheduled to land Tuesday at Philadelphia International Airport about 5:00 PM. They will be given a police escort back to Villanova for the welcome home celebration being held at the Football complex.
