Delaware State Police are currently investigating a serious hit-and-run crash in which a pedestrian was struck that occurred this evening west of Wilmington.
WILMINGTON: Police say they are investigating a pedestrian crash that occurred at approximately 8:54 p.m. on westbound DE Rt. 2 (Kirkwood Highway) in the area of Greenbank Road, and involves a male pedestrian who was struck by two vehicles.
According to police spokesman, Jefferey R. Hale, the first of the two vehicles then fled the scene in a westbound direction on Rt. 2. The second vehicle remained at the scene. As a result of the crash, the male pedestrian was removed from the scene and transported to the Christiana Hospital with serious injuries.
The westbound lanes of DE Rt. 2 between Newport Gap Pike and Greenbank Road have been closed to traffic and commuters are asked to find alternate routes of travel.
This crash remains under investigation by the Delaware State Police. Further information will be released at the conclusion of the investigation.
