Mud and kids – a perfect match, right? You were only going to find that perfect combination at the annual Mud run Jr near Middletown where over 2 thousand kids became mudders to help benefit the Lukemia Foundation of Delaware.
MIDDLETOWN (DE): Mud, kids, obstacle courses – doesn’t sound like much fun does it? It may not sound like a perfect match for us, but it sure was for over 2,200 kids who participated in Thursday’s annual Mud Run Jr. While some parents may think it’s a great combination to encourage their kids to stay in shape, others may have been looking for a way to wear down their kids for the day. But the real reason I think that we were all here was to help researches find a cure for Lukemia, and most of the kids probably don’t even realize that.
According to Delaware Mud Run Jr.’s website, “The Delaware Mud Run Jr. is a 1.5 mile race with boot camp style obstacles that have been surrounded by or consisting of mud.” Mud Run Jr. allows kids age 6-13 to participate in the race that lasts about 20 to 25 minutes.
It’s a special time for kids to come together for a great cause, meet new people, and have fun. This year has brought something special to one family who had a son with Autism who has joined the race for the second year.
With over 2,250 participants, waves of mudders began every 20-25 minutes which started at 4:30 P.M. with parents, families, and friends cheering them on along the way. Parents were seen running from one obstacle to the next in an attempt to keep up with their little mudders and some found it difficult to do so.
Mud Run Jr., it’s all about kids, mud, and fun
