A 65-year-old woman has been hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries following a brutal purse snatching attempt and police are now searching for the suspects.
NEW CASTLE (DE): It’s a brutal purse snatching attempt on a senior citizen, and police are now looking for the suspects. Police say it was just after 5:00 P.M. Tuesday evening when the victim left the Community Plaza Walgreens located on Rte 273 in New Castle, when a green SUV, possibly a Chevrolet Suburban pulled up alongside her as her back was turned.
According to police spokesman, Michael Austin, the victim was in the process of unlocking her car but before she could enter her vehicle, a green SUV, possibly a Chevrolet Suburban, pulled up alongside her. It was at that time that time that Austin said, a passenger from the suspect vehicle reached out the window and grabbed the strap of her purse.
The victim, put up a fight, not letting go of her purse, and once the suspect had taken hold of her purse, the operator of the vehicle accelerated, which in turn dragged the victim to the ground. Amazingly, the victim was still able to retain her purse and the vehicle fled on Christiana Road westbound towards Newark.
As a result of being knocked to the ground, the victim sustained head and hip injuries for which she was transported to the Christiana Hospital for treatment.
The suspects were described as black males in their early 20’s, clean cut and the operator was possibly wearing a black bandana on his head.
