NEW CASTLE (DE): There’s a sad story on Delaware Newsline. A pet dog was pulled from a burning home around 1:30 P.M.

Firefighters were called to the home which is in the 400 block of 9th street in New Castle, Delaware. Now, this is in the development of Holloway Terrace and not in the city of Old New Castle.

It all happened today about 1:30 P.M. and when fire personnel began arriving on 9th Street, they could immediately see smoke in the area.

Once emergency vehicles began arriving at the home, firefighters began to force their way through the front door and within seconds a pet dog was carried out by one of them. Unfortunately, the dog, which appeared to be near the front door of the home did not survive.

With the assistance of Wilmington Manor, Minquadale, and Goodwill Fire Companies, firefighters brought the fire under control within about 20 minutes.

The homeowners were not home at the time and there were no injuries or other structural damage.

The State Fire Marshall’s office is investigating.
