The Salem Police Department celebrated the career and retirement of Senior Officer Bruce Fineran on December 28.
SALEM (NJ): He began his law enforcement career in 1983 when he was hired as a Reserve Police Officer with the City of Jefferson, and then by the Sweet Home Police Department as a sworn officer in 1986.
He then came to the Salem Police Department in July of 1991 and was a Field Training Officer on patrol. He became a Canine Officer in 1996 and has been a handler for the rest of his career, being the longest standing Canine Officer ever with the Salem Police Department.
Officer Fineran and his four canine partners during his career, Ike, Charlie, Luke and Duke, have over 2,000 suspect captures. He is known for his calm demeanor and matter of fact approach, and he has been awarded both the Medal of Valor and Lifesaving Awards during this time with the department.
On December 28th, Officer Bruce Fineran, retired as one of the longest standing K9 officers at Salem Police Department. The retirement ceremony was presided over by Salem Police Chief Jerry Moore and was attended by family, friends, retirees, officers and others wishing Officer Fineran a happy retirement.
Officer Fineran is a devoted husband and father and is looking forward to the next chapter in his life. The Salem Police Department family wishes Officer Fineran and long and happy retirement.
