A 55-year-old male pedestrian was struck, seriously injured, and cited after dashing across Christiana Road by Delaware Park on Friday.
NEWARK (DE): A 55-year-old male pedestrian was struck and seriously injured Friday afternoon after he ran across the roadway around 3:00 p.m. and was struck by a tractor trailer.
According to police spokesman, Richard Bratz, the pedestrian, who was not identified, ran across Route 7 in an eastern direction and into the path of Peterbilt tractor trailer driven by a 53-year-old Milford man.
The operator of the tractor trailer moved to the left lane and came to a controlled stop in the left-hand shoulder of the roadway., Bratz said.
The 55-year-old male pedestrian from New Castle was treated on the scene by New Castle County Paramedics and transported to Christiana Medical Center where he was admitted in serious condition.
The pedestrian was cited for Crossing at other than Crosswalk/Pedestrian Shall Yield ROW to all vehicles. SR 7 traffic on the southbound lanes were impacted for two hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.
