Wilmington Police say the death of a child that was left in the care of two other individuals on February 17th have been ruled a homicide by detectives.
WILMINGTON (DE): Tameke Wright, 22, of Wilmington and Lavar Harris, 37, of Wilmington, are facing murder charges after a child that was left in their care died as a result of force trauma.
Police say, the Criminal Investigations Division, working in collaboration with the Division of Family Services and the Delaware Attorney General’s Office, discovered that the mother of the child had left the child in the care of Wright and Harris, both from the 300 block of E. 5th Street, in Wilmington.
The Delaware State Medical Examiner’s office later determined the death to be a homicide caused by blunt force trauma and on February 23rd, warrants were signed for both individuals for 1st degree Murder by abuse or neglect.
Officials say, less than two hours after the warrants were issued, both suspects were taken into custody by Wilmington Police Uniformed Services Division without incident.
Tameke Wright and Lavar Harris are each being held on a $100,000 cash bail.
