45-year-old Stephen Misetic, a Wilmington Police Captain died a short time after suffering a heart attack at his home Saturday morning. Misetic was a 21-year veteran of the Wilmington Police department.
WILMINGTON (DE): “It is with great sadness and sorrow that Wilmington Mayor Mike Purzycki and Chief of Police Robert J. Tracy announce the passing today of Wilmington Police Captain Stephen Misetic.”, read a press release from Wilmington Police.
Chief Tracy said he and his police colleagues are saddened and heartbroken at the sudden passing of Captain Misetic.
“Stephen was a hardworking and accomplished law enforcement officer upon whom I and my fellow officers relied heavily to carry out our policing efforts in Wilmington. The work he performed for us and his overall record of dedicated service has made us a better Police Department and we will miss him immensely,” Chief Tracy said.
“Captain Misetic was well respected and was an integral player in the Chief’s efforts to restructure the Department and change the way we police our streets,” said Mayor Purzycki.
“It is shocking to lose the Captain at such a young age and at this point in his promising career.”
Chief Tracy said funeral arrangements for Captain Misetic will be announced as soon as they are completed. He also asked the community to keep his family and members of the Wilmington Department of Police in their thoughts and prayers as they mourn the loss of a member of the Department.
Mayor Purzycki has directed that City flags be flown at half-mast to honor Captain Misetic and to celebrate his years of dedicated service to the citizens of Wilmington and to the law enforcement community.
