WILMINGTON (DE): Wilmington Police are investigating after one person was shot in Wilmington’s Hilltop neighborhood. According to other media sources, the victim “was shot multiple times”, however, that was not confirmed by Wilmington Police. It was around 9:15 Pm. when patrol units were dispatched to the 1400 block of West Third Street in Wilmington Wednesday night. There, they found a male shooting victim and began rendering aid.
The unidentified male victim was transported to an area hospital where he was later pronounced dead according to a release from Wilmington Police. Investigators are working to determine his identity and to notify his next of kin.
On N. Rodney Street from 2nd to 4th street and 3rd & Delamore Streets were cordoned off with yellow police tape. A number of police cars had streets blocked off in the area.
Some residents who live inside the cordoned areas watched as investigators search for clues, evidence, and any possible witnesses or suspects. A Forensics police vehicle was seen at 3rd & Delamore Place.
This marks the 20th shooting Wilmington police have responded to this year. To date, seven victims have died as a result of gun violence in Wilmington this year.
