Police identified the suspect as 46-year-old Gregory D. Jones of New Castle. Authorities say that Jones was wanted on charges out of New Castle County Superior Court and was arrested after the four-hour standoff.
NEW CASTLE (DE): A heavy police presence was seen in the community of Penn Acres South early Thursday morning as police converged on a residence to execute a search warrant.
According to police spokesman Michael Austin, “Troopers executed a search warrant at a residence located in the unit block of Bunker Hill Rd., in the Penn Acres South development of New Castle in regard to a wanted subject who was believed to be inside.”
“Upon Troopers entering the residence other occupants complied with requests to exit the home however Jones refused to surrender and subsequently barricaded himself inside the residence.”, Austin said.”
Due to the nature of the incident evacuations at adjacent homes did occur. Additionally, and with the assistance of the New Castle County Police Department, who also had officers on scene, a reverse 911 call was made to further communicate with the community., Austin said.
Shortly after, The Delaware State Police Special Operations Response Team and Conflict Management Teams came in to assist.
Police say they attempted to establish communications with the man inside the home to persuade him to surrender. However, when that failed, OC gas was deployed inside the residence which resulted in the suspect being apprehended.

Jones was arraigned on the below New Castle County Superior charges and then committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $500,000.00 cash bail:
- Organized Crime and Racketeering (2 counts)
- Manufacture, Deliver or Possess with Intent to Deliver a Controlled Substance
- Possess a Firearm or Destructive Weapon after Conviction of a Felony (5 counts)
- Possession of a Firearm or Ammunition by a Person Prohibited
- Conspiracy 2nd Degree (2 counts)
