A 28-year-old man is behind bars and charged with attempted murder following a road rage incident in Lewes, according to police.
Lewes (DE): Delaware State Police say that they have arrested 28-year-old Kevin T. Brownlee of Lewes, for attempted murder following the road rage incident that occurred in Lewes Saturday evening.
Authorities say that on Saturday June 6, 2020 around 6:30 Pm., Troopers were dispatched to a residence in the 33000 block of Sandy Bay Drive, Villages at Herring Creek, Lewes, for multiple reports of shots fired.
When troopers arrived, medical personnel was in the process of treating a male victim suffering from gunshot wounds.
“A further investigation into this incident revealed that the victim observed a small dark-colored SUV with a kayak on the roof traveling on Camp Arrow Head Road recklessly.”, According to police spokeswoman, Melissa Jaffe. “The victim followed the vehicle and was able to get the SUV stopped as it made a left turn onto Sand Bay Drive.”
Once stopped, the victim proceeded to make contact with the driver to confront him about his reckless driving. The suspect attempted to punch the victim from inside his vehicle. As the victim proceeded to reach into the vehicle to block the punch, his arm got stuck inside the SUV for a short period of time. The suspect began to speed off. Eventually, the victim fell to the ground once he was able to remove his arm. Once the victim fell to the ground, the suspect put his vehicle in reverse and attempted to run over the victim, who avoided being struck.
The victim got back into his vehicle to look for the suspect, eventually catching up to him at the his residence, and the two engaged in a physical altercation, police say.
The suspect proceeded inside his residence and retrieved a handgun and when he came out of his residence with the handgun, he began firing at the victim while the victim was in his vehicle. The victim was subsequently struck by a bullet and proceeded to exited his vehicle as the suspect continued to fire rounds at him. The victim was able to get away on foot, and the suspect returned to his residence.
The 38-year-old male victim was transported to a local area hospital where he was treated for a gunshot wound to his upper extremity and a graze to his head.
Police identified Kevin T. Brownlee of Lewes. Brownlee was taken into custody at his residence without incident, and the handgun was recovered. He was transported back to Troop 4 where he was charged with the following:
+ Attempted Murder 1st
+ Poss of a Deadly Weapon During the Comm of a Felony
+ Reckless Endanger First Degree
+ Criminal Mischief $5000 or More Damage Property
Brownlee was arraigned before the Justice of the Peace Court and committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution $168000.00 cash-only bond.
