The panhandler you normally see throughout the day on West Avenue & New Castle Avenue was arrested and charged after police say he broke into the Crossroads Family Dollar store early Monday morning.
New Castle (DE): Police say 31-year-old James W. Darden was observed panhandling in front of the BP gas station on New Castle Ave around 8:00 am. Monday morning when he was taken into custody.
According to a news release, Police say, Darden with the help of someone else burglarized the Family Dollar in the Crossroads Shopping Center around 2:00 Am Monday morning.
“Two suspects utilized a brick to shatter the front glass door to the Family Dollar Store located at 2082 New Castle Ave., New Castle.,” said police spokeswoman Melissa Jaffe. “Upon entry, the suspects removed various items, including but not limited to cigarettes, consumable goods, and portable electronic accessories valued at approximately $500. After obtaining the merchandise, the suspects fled the area.”
The other suspect has yet to be identified. Police was able to identify Darden through investigative measures.
Darden was charged with Burglary Third Degree (Felony), Conspiracy Second Degree (Felony), Theft, and Criminal Mischief.
Darden was arraigned before the Justice of the Peace Court and released on $6500.00 unsecured bond.
