The sexual assault occurred in Brandywine Park in the area of North Park Drive and the Washington Street overpass on May 29, 2020.
Wilmington (DE): Wilmington Police say have arrested and charged a 35-year-old New Castle man in connection with a sexual assault that took place in the Brandywine Park.
Detectives say they developed 35-year-old Byron Mayhan of New Castle as a suspect and issued arrest warrants for him.
“On May 29 at approximately 8:30 a.m., a sexual assault occurred in Brandywine Park in the area of North Park Drive and the Washington Street overpass.,” said Wilmington Police spokesman David Karas.
Although Brandywine Park is in the jurisdiction of the Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control/Natural Resources Police, Wilmington Police took the lead in the investigation.
Detective Mary Quinee, a Wilmington Police Detective identified Mayhan of New Castle as a suspect in the incident and filed arrest warrants for Rape (First Degree) – 5 Counts, Robbery (First Degree), Kidnapping (First Degree), Possession of a Deadly Weapon During the Commission of a Felony, Possession of a Deadly Weapon by a Person Prohibited, Terroristic Threatening
Karas said, Mayhan was located and taken into custody in Baltimore, Maryland on June 29 by the United States Marshals Service Task Force. Arraignment on the above charges is pending extradition to Delaware.
