Rehoboth Beach Police were called to the Brighton Suites in the second block of Wilmington Avenue for a report of a suspicious package containing suspected illegal drugs.
REHOBOTH BEACH (DE): Rehoboth Beach Police have arrested Ade Smith, 38, of Chester, Pa. and Timothy Lunn, 54, of Vestal, Ny., who are facing multiple charges relating to a three day suspicious package investigation.
Police say last Tuesday, June 23rd at around 10:30 am. Rehoboth Beach Police were called to the Brighton Suites in the second block of Wilmington Avenue for a report of a suspicious package containing suspected illegal drugs.
According to a news release, officers arrived and were “presented with an open package” delivered by the United States Postal Service to the Brighton Suites to the attention of a registered guest, Timothy Lunn.
The hotel staff, who thought the package was intended for them, opened the package and discovered the drugs.
The staff member thought the package was intended for them due to the manner in which the package was labeled according to police.
“The subsequent investigation revealed that the package contained a large quantity of suspected cocaine and paraphernalia consistent with drug dealing.,” said Jamie Riddle, a police spokesperson for the Rehoboth Beach Police Department.
Investigators obtained a search warrant for Lunn’s room and registered vehicle and say they found additional items furthering the suspicions of drug dealing.
Police said, during the course of the investigation, Ade Smith, a guest staying with Lunn, approached the front counter of the hotel on multiple occasions attempting to retrieve the package representing himself as Lunn.
When contacted by hotel staff and advised the package had been delivered, Smith came to the lobby and took custody of a package designed to replicate the one containing the drugs.
Both Smith and Lunn were arrested and taken into custody.
On Wednesday, June 24th investigators were once again contacted by the staff of the Brighton Suites who reported that another package had been delivered for Lunn. A search warrant was obtained for the package and officers discovered that the package contained a felony quantity of suspected MDMA pills, as well as, suspected methamphetamine.
Lunn was arrested and charged with the following felonies; 1 count of possession with intent to deliver a tier 3 quantity controlled substance, 1 count of possession of a tier 1 quantity controlled substance, and 2 counts of felony conspiracy. In addition, Lunn was charged with multiple misdemeanors to include; 2 counts of possession of drug paraphernalia not related to a personal use quantity of marijuana and 1 count of possession of a controlled substance.
Lunn was committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution in default of $52,500 cash bail.
Smith was arrested and charged with the following felonies; 1 count of possession with intent to deliver a tier 3 quantity controlled substance, 1 count of possession of a tier 1 quantity controlled substance, and 2 counts of felony conspiracy. In addition, Smith was charged with multiple misdemeanors to include; 2 counts of possession of drug paraphernalia not related to a personal use quantity of marijuana and 2 count of possession of a controlled substance.
Smith was committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution in default of $53,000 cash bail.
