SMYRNA (DE): Police say a woman was killed after being struck by an unknown number of vehicles on South Dupont Blvd in Smyrna early Sunday morning. Officials say the vehicle or vehicles involved did not stop after impact.
It’s unknown how police became aware of the accident that happened shortly after 1:00 am. Sunday morning, but the Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating the accident.
According to state police, the accident happened on South Dupont Blvd in Smyrna just south of Brenford Road, where they say the vehicles were traveling southbound at the time of the accident.
“A pedestrian for unknown reasons, was in the left travel lane of southbound S. Dupont Boulevard and may have possibly been in a low lying position when she was struck by an unknown vehicle(s).,” said police spokeswoman Melissa Jaffe.
The victim, who police say came to a final rest in the left travel lane of southbound S. Dupont Boulevard was identified as 30-year-old Ashley Clark of Dover, DE., Jaffe said.
Police say she was pronounced deceased at the scene and was turned over to the Delaware Division of Forensic Science for further investigation.
Police do not have any suspect information because the vehicle or vehicles that were involved did not stop after the collision.
The roadway was closed for approximately 7 hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.
