Delaware State Police say they have arrested two teenagers in cocnnetion with an elementary school burglary that happened in Newark Sunday morning.
NEWARK (DE): Two teenagers have been arrested Sunday morning after troopers found them inside a school that was closed.
Police say troopers were dispatched to May B. Leasure Elementary School located in the 1000 block of Church Road in Newark Sunday around 3:30 a.m. for a burglary in progress complaint.
Troopers arrived at the school and performed an interior check of the school where the motion sensors were triggered and that’s when they found the two teens inside. While one of the teens was taken into custody, the other tried to flee the school but was captured as he was running and taken into custody without incident police say.
Police say “The two teens entered the school through an unlocked window and were attempting to steal items from inside. During the burglary the juveniles cut locks to storage areas and removed valuables. All items were recovered.”
Both juveniles were then transported back to Troop 2 where they were charged with the following:
The 16 year-old juvenile was charged with Burglary Third Degree – (Felony), Possession of Burglary Tools – (Felony), Conspiracy Second Degree – (Felony), Theft Under $1,500, Resisting Arrest, and Criminal Mischief. He was arraigned before the Justice of the Peace Court and released on $10,500 unsecured bond.
The 15 year-old juvenile was charged with Burglary Third Degree – (Felony), Possession of Burglary Tools – (Felony), Conspiracy Second Degree – (Felony), Theft Under $1,500, and Criminal Mischief. He was arraigned before the Justice of the Peace Court and released on $9,500 unsecured bond.
