Delaware State Police say they are investigating a pedestrian struck on 273 at the Route 1 By-pass ramps. The infamous intersection is known to clog up rush hour traffic and is a prime accident spot.
NEW CASTLE (DE): Police say a 36-year-old man was struck and killed by a 2012 Porche Panamera around 11:15 Wednesday night.
Police identified him Friday morning as 36-year-old Agustin Garcia Maldonado of New Castle and said he died at the scene.
Investigators say, a 2012 Porche Panamera, operated by a 30-year-old Wilmington woman, was traveling westbound on 273 entering the right turn lane for the ramp to Delaware State Route 1 northbound.
At the same time, a 36-year-old male pedestrian of New Castle entered the right turn lane from the north edge of roadway into the path of the Porsche. Investigators say, as a result the front right of Porsche collided with the pedestrian.
Police say the operator of the Porche was able to come to a controlled stop in the right turn lane several feet after impact and was not injured during the collision.
The pedestrian was treated by New Castle County Paramedics and transported to a local hospital.
Police say the roadway was closed for approximately 2 hours while the scene was investigated and cleared.
