“We hope this pilot outdoor movie series will be a welcome break for children and their families, many of whom have had their activities restricted for months due to COVID-19.,” said Mayor Purzycki.

WILMINGTON (DE): Last week, Wilmington Mayor Mike Purzycki said that the City will partner with two community organizations to co-sponsor a series of FREE socially distanced movie nights in City parks.

The Mayor said concerns about the spread of COVID-19 has caused the City to suspend issuing permits for public events, so the City will present a safely planned and supervised pilot movie series beginning next week to provide some additional entertainment outlets for City residents.

“With the assistance of two respected community agencies, our Parks and Recreation Department will offer movie nights that will be heavily supervised to ensure that children and parents are socially-distanced and are wearing masks,” said Mayor Purzycki. “We hope this pilot outdoor movie series will be a welcome break for children and their families, many of whom have had their activities restricted for months due to COVID-19. But we need to do this without endangering anyone’s health, which is why we’ll monitor these park movie events more than we usually do.”

The Mayor today thanked West Side Grows Together and Central Baptist Community Development Corporation for helping the City monitor the movie nights and keep everyone safe. He also thanked M&T Bank which donated $5,000 to help support the licensing fees for the Fall Movies in the Park series.
