NEW CASTLE (DE): New Castle County Police are now offering a reward of $15,000. for tips that leads to the arrest of a man who police say opened fire from a handgun at two officers who were chasing him.

“If we ask officers to protect us from harm, we must protect them from harm,” said County Executive Matt Meyer. “Last week an individual shot a gun at officers of our New Castle County Police. The individual must be caught. We have contributed $4,000 from the County Executive’s contingency fund to reward you or anyone with information leading to the arrest of this suspect. I implore anyone with information to come forward to get this dangerous person off our streets.”
Police say the incident happened last Saturday, September 19, 2020, in the community of Glasgow Pines.
Police say two patrol officers were involved in a foot pursuit with 22-year-old, Khairon Edwards, in the community of Glasgow Pines. According to police, “During the foot pursuit, Edwards turned and fired a handgun at the officers. The officers subsequently lost sight of Edwards and he has not yet been located.”
New Castle County Police have contributed up to $10,000 to reward anyone with information leading to the apprehension of Khairon Edwards.

It’s unclear if anyone has submitted any tips but Colonel Vaughn M. Bond, Jr. again urged Edwards to turn himself in and added, “Anyone who is found harboring or has harbored Khairon Edwards will be investigated and possibly charged.”
Eckerd said with these contributions, in addition to the Crime Stoppers $1000 reward, the totals are up to $15,000.
Khairon Edwards is a black male, 5’06, and approximately 145 lbs. He is considered to be armed and dangerous. If located, members of the community are advised to avoid contact with him and call 911.
It’s unclear if the reward money is based on “tips that leads to Edwards arrest” or “Information that leads to his arrest and conviction”. Normally, reward money is paid based on tips that leads to the arrest and conviction of an individual. We’re working to clear that up with police.
