During a sweep of the residence, they found Edwards deceased from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
COATESVILLE (PA): After being on the run from police for more than a week, 22-year-old, Khairon Edwards has finally been found. Found dead by police from a self-inflicted gunshot wound in a Coatesville, Pa home Tuesday.
Earlier Tuesday, New Castle County Police Detectives learned about Edwards location and contacted the Coatesville Police Department for assistance. It’s not known how detectives became aware of Edwards location but sometime that same day, Officers from Coatesville Police Department, along with the Chester County Regional SWAT team responded to the location and set up a perimeter around the residence.
Police say they called Edwards out of the residence several times but got no response from him. Officers and SWAT members then breached the residence and during a sweep of the home, they found Edwards deceased from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
“This was certainly an unfortunate incident for all involved.” stated Colonel Vaughn M. Bond, Jr., “We would like to thank the multiple agencies and members of the community for their assistance. Also, we ask that you keep our officers and the Edwards family in prayer.”
Edwards was wanted after fleeing from officers who were chasing him Saturday September 19, 2020 in the Glasgow Pines community. Police say during the chase, Edwards turned around and pointed a gun at the officers then fired at them. The chase continued but the officers subsequently lost sight of Edwards.
Following the Saturday incident, New Castle County Police, New Castle County, and the ATF all donated Crime Stoppers reward money totaling up to $25,000.00 for information that led to the arrest of Edwards.
At the time, Colonel Vaughn M. Bond, Jr. urged Edwards to turn himself in and added, “Anyone who is found harboring or has harbored Khairon Edwards will be investigated and possibly charged.”
