The activation comes two weeks following the siege at the U.S. Capital in Washington, D.C. by President Trump supporters who stormed the Capital grounds and violently breached the Capital building by force.
WILMINGTON (DE) 01/15/21: Less than a week after the FBI warned of upcoming protests for all 50 state capitals, and Washington, D.C., states across the country have been stepping up security, including Delaware.
“Armed protests are being planned at all 50 state capitols from 16 January through at least 20 January, and at the US Capitol from 17 January through 20 January,” the FBI bulletin states.
It also suggests there are threats of an “uprising” if Trump is removed via the 25th Amendment before Inauguration Day.
“On 8 January, the FBI received information on an identified group calling for others to join them in ‘storming’ state, local and federal government courthouses and administrative buildings in the event POTUS is removed as President prior to Inauguration Day. This identified group is also planning to ‘storm’ government offices including in the District of Columbia and in every state, regardless of whether the states certified electoral votes for Biden or Trump, on 20 January,” the bulletin adds.
Federal Officials fear more bloodshed following the January 6, 2021 attack at the U.S. Capital and Governor John Carney on Friday signed Executive Order #47, activating the Delaware National Guard to assist state and local authorities with activity around the 2021 Presidential Inauguration.
According to the order, the Guard may take proactive or responsive action at the direction of the Director of the Delaware Emergency Management Agency (DEMA), in consultation with the Secretary of the Delaware Department of Safety and Homeland Security (DSHS).
“Members of the Delaware National Guard have continued to step up – time and time again – to support their communities when that support is needed most. This time is no different,” said Governor Carney. “I want to thank all of our Delaware guardsmen and guardswomen for their selfless service to our state and country.”
The activation comes two weeks following the siege at the U.S. Capital in Washington, D.C. by President Trump supporters who stormed the Capital grounds and violently breached the Capital building by force. Five people died including a U.S. Captal Police officer.
Since then, more than 300 people have been arrested including two Delaware men one of which was seen in a photo carrying a confederate flag through the Capital., according to the FBI.
