ELSMERE (DE) BY DIGITAL STAFF: Combustibles placed near a heater was the cause of a Friday evening Elsmere house fire, the state Fire Marshal’s Office says.

As smoke poured from the home in the 1200 block of Spruce Avenue around 8:00 p.m., Elsmere Fire Company arrived and a fire was extinguished in the basement a short time later.

Nobody was hurt during the fire and Deputy fire marshals were called to the fire scene to investigate the fire’s origin and cause which was determined by investigators at the scene.

The fire originated inside the basement when combustibles were placed too close to a heater causing the ignition of the fire., Said Michael G. Chionchio, Assistant State Fire Marshal.
