Thanks to a passerby, family of Selbyville house fire escapes without injury

The occupants were alerted to the fire by a passerby who stopped and knocked on their door.

SELBYVILLE (DE) BY DIGITAL STAFF: The Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office who investigated a Selbyville house fire Thursday said the cause of the fire was determined to be Accidental in nature.

The fire was caused by “An operating woodstove and chimney assembly ignited available combustibles.,” said Deputy State Fire Marshal John Galaska.

The fire, was reported at the single family home shortly before 6 A.M. on Thursday March 11, 2021. The Roxana Fire Company arrived on the scene shortly after in the 36000 block of Old Mill Bridge Road Selbyville and found smoke and flames coming from the structure.

Galaska said the home was occupied at the time of the fire and the occupants were alerted to the fire by a passerby who stopped and knocked on their door. The occupants were then able to escape without injury.

There were no other reported injuries and fire damage was estimated as $45000.
