Police say after two hours of negotiations, the three occupants surrendered to police by exiting the hotel room individually.
DOVER (DE) BY DIGITAL STAFF: A 37-Year-Old man is behind bars and a 17-Year-Old teen is under arrest following nearly a two hour stand off with police at a Dover Hotel late Wednesday morning.
It was shortly after 10:30 a.m. Wednesday when the Dover Police Department Crisis Negotiation Team and the Delaware State Police Special Operations Teams began arriving at the Dover Garden Suites.
Shortly after their arrival, police say they were able to establish communications with 37-Year-Old Donald Miller in the suspected hotel room. During communications with Miller, police learned that a 17-year-old boy and an unidentified woman was also in the room.
“Donald Miller (37) was wanted by Wilmington Police Department for charges related to a residential burglary and for fleeing from police.,” Said police spokesman Mark Hoffman. “Miller was also wanted by New Castle County Police on firearms and vehicle theft charges in addition to multiple court capias in Delaware.”
Police say after nearly two hours of negotiations, the three occupants surrendered to police by exiting the hotel room individually. Following their surrender and arrest, officers obtained a search warrant for the room and located a handgun and loaded magazine.
Hoffman said the 17-year-old teen was wanted on a capias however, it’s unknown if the teen was wanted by Wilmington Police or if Dover Police learned about his capias following the incident.
The female subject in the room was not charged and was released.
Miller was committed to SCI in default of a $33,000 secured bond on charges from New Castle County Police, $12,800 secured bond on Wilmington Police charges, and a $13,000 secured bond on Possession of Firearm/Ammo by Person Prohibited, Conspiracy 2nd Degree, Tampering with Evidence, Resisting Arrest, and Criminal Mischief charges from Dover Police.
The 17-year-old male was also charged with the same offenses as Miller. It’s not known why the teen was charged with the same offenses.
The female subject was not charged in the incident and was released.
