NEWARK (DE) BY DIGITAL STAFF: A Caregiver, who was assaulted was given a ride to the hospital in a Delaware State Police Aviation chopper Thursday according to Newark Police.

Police say around 8:45 a.m. officers were summoned to a group home in the 200 block of Vassar Drive for a report of an assault. Officers arrived at the scene and found a caregiver had been assaulted by a resident at the home.

“The female caregiver was transported to an area hospital by Delaware State Police helicopter for treatment of her injuries.  She is in stable condition.,” Said police spokesman Andrew Rubin.

Rubin said the client (resident) was also transported to an area hospital for evaluation.

No weapons were involved in the assault and the incident is currently under investigation by the Newark Police Department Criminal Investigations Division.

It’s unknown why the caregiver was flown with minor injuries by a state police helicopter as Newark has a pretty strong volunteer fire company with multiple ambulances.

A Delaware Newsline reporter reached out to Newark Police but by the time of publishing this story they have not yet responded to our request.
