NEW CASTLE (DE) BY DIGITAL STAFF: New Castle County Police are investigating a shooting after they say a man who went to meet a woman on a street corner in Hamilton Park was shot and robbed Monday night.
Police say around 9:00 p.m. officers were dispatched to the Beyond Petroleum (BP) gas station at 201 S. Heald St in the City of Wilmington for a 24-year-old, male victim suffering from a gunshot wound to his leg.
“When the officers arrived, they learned that the victim had met a female acquaintance at the corner of South Street and Hamilton Street in the community of Hamilton Park.,” Said police spokesman Michel Eckerd.”
According to police, the victim and the woman were arguing inside the victims car. The woman eventually got out of his car and walked to the driver’s side of the victim’s vehicle. The victim then exited his vehicle and when he did, he was approached by a black male who police say shot him in the leg with a handgun. Police say the shooter then took the victim’s wallet and left with the white female.
Meanwhile, at the BP Gas station, the victim told officers that he was not familiar with the area and just drove towards lights. Police say, this explains how he ended up there.
The victim was transported to a local area hospital where he was treated and released for a gunshot wound to his leg.
The officers, assisted by patrol officers from the Wilmington Police Department, canvassed the area with negative results.
