WILMINGTON (DE) BY DIGITAL STAFF: As Wilmington continues it’s COVID-19 vaccination efforts, the city is now requiring any individual or organization seeking a city outdoor event permit to allow vaccinations to be offered at that event, according to a news release.
“All efforts must continue to be made to vaccinate city residents and prevent COVID-19 illnesses and related restrictions.,” Mayor Purzycki said.
The Mayor said it is clear that the benefits for individuals and communities far outweigh any concerns.

Mayor Purzycki said the vaccine will help everyone return to a normal life where interactions with family, friends, and business associates can occur more safely and more frequently. He also said the vaccine will enable more businesses to survive and hopefully thrive as they recover from the economic effects of the pandemic.
To encourage more people to get vaccinated and to ensure that Wilmington’s underserved communities have access to the vaccine, the City now requires any individual or organization seeking a City outdoor event permit to allow vaccinations to be offered at that event.
“Anyone sponsoring an outdoor City-permitted event should be eager to be part of the COVID solution and recovery,” said the Mayor. “Let’s do it for ourselves, our families, and for the community as a whole. My special thanks to everyone who has come together to plan a fun, family-centered vaccination event on Saturday.” | Wilmington Mayor Mike Purzycki
The Mayor is referring to the Family Fun Day and Community Vaccination Event scheduled for Woodlawn Park at 4th and Ferris Streets on Wilmington’s West Side, this Saturday, June 12 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
According to event organizer, City Council Member Maria D. Cabrera, the Woodlawn Park gathering is open to all, but a special emphasis is being placed on encouraging members of Wilmington’s Hispanic and Latinx communities to attend the family fun-filled afternoon.
On-site vaccination for adults and children ages 12 and older will be administered by the staff of West Side Health, and the Latin American Community Center will provide children’s activities and entertainment, including moon bounces, face painting and family competitions for prizes. Bernie’s Water Ice will supply all attendees with FREE water ice.
“Statistics show that the Hispanic community has the lowest rate of COVID-19 in vaccinations in Delaware,” said Council Member Cabrera. “We account for just 6.9 percent of the State’s vaccinated individuals. As trusted community leaders, it is important that we lead by example. That is why I’m grateful that Mike Beltran of The Roberto Clemente League, which is headquartered at Woodlawn Park and hosting this event, will be getting his first vaccinate dose Saturday afternoon. Also on Saturday, Spanish-speaking members of the community can ask questions and get information in their native language, which makes a huge difference.”
Individuals can pre-register for the COVID-19 vaccine (Pfizer or Johnson & Johnson) at this link. Walk-Ups are also welcome. Wilmington City Council will offer meal ticket vouchers to the first 50 people vaccinated, while La Maxima 104.1 FM will provide an additional 50 meal tickets, ensuring that the first 100 people vaccinated on Saturday eat for free.
Also, everyone vaccinated at the event will receive a gift card and be entered into the DE WINS! Vaccine Incentive Program for a chance to win prizes like a full scholarship to the University of Delaware or Delaware State University, Blue Rocks tickets, Firefly tickets, a $302,000 grand prize and more.
