The groundkeeper told police that over the past three weeks, he has discovered tombstones from the 1800’s stolen each week with a total of seven or eight stolen.
GREENWOOD, DE (DNTV): Delaware State Police are investigating missing tombstones from a Greenwood cemetery that dates back to the 1800’s.
Police say they troopers responded to the St. Johnstown Cemetery at 13471 St. Johnstown Road, in Greenwood Tuesday after a groundskeeper reported the missing tombstones.
The groundkeeper told police that over the past three weeks, he has discovered tombstones from the 1800’s stolen each week with a total of seven or eight stolen.
These tombstones were the among the oldest in the cemetery. It’s unknown why the groundkeeper didn’t report the thefts earlier and police say the thefts occurred between May 25-June 15.
