Man with gun at Glasgow High was part of group that attacked students Thursday

FIGHTS BY OUTSIDERS AT GLASGOW HIGH: Police say several fights began to break out as the trespassers began charging multiple Glasgow High School students.

NEWARK (DE) BY DIGITAL STAFF: On Thursday afternoon, Delaware State Police arrested two adult males on weapon and criminal charges outside Glasgow High School after multiple individuals trespassed on school property and engaged in altercations with students.

Police say at approximately 2:20 p.m., students were dismissed from Glasgow High School located at 1901 S. College Avenue, as a group of adults and juveniles entered the property and began walking towards the front door of the school, the individuals were immediately contacted outside the school by Glasgow High School Delaware State Police Student Resource Officer and school administrators and informed to leave the property because they were trespassing.

The group failed to comply and continued acting disorderly by yelling and cursing. Police say that’s when several fights began to break out as the trespassers began charging multiple Glasgow High School students.

During the incident, the trooper prevented one juvenile from attacking a student before an adult male attempted to distract the trooper.

Once the situation with the juveniles was calmed, the 32-year-old adult male from Philadelphia, PA, again engaged students and refused multiple commands to leave the property. The male was taken into custody by the trooper and secured in the troopers’ patrol vehicle.

Screams of “gun” were then heard as students began running toward the trooper. The trooper ran to the area where the students were fleeing from and was directed by witnesses to contact Mcdevitt P. James, 31, from Newark, DE. Through the investigation, James was observed to be in possession of a gun. He then handed it to another male who immediately discarded the firearm in a black 2004 Volvo S80 and then fled on foot. James was taken into custody without incident.

A search incident to arrest was conducted before being transported to Delaware State Police Troop 2, resulting in approximately 1.55 grams of marijuana located on his person. The additional individuals trespassing on Glasgow High School property fled the scene. 

Police said that the 2004 black Volvo S80 was located and a search warrant was executed on the vehicle. A Ruger 57 handgun was located inside. 

James was charged with Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon (Felony), Possession of a Weapon in a School Safe Zone (Felony), Possession of a Firearm by a Person Prohibited (Felony), Possession of Marijuana (Civil Violation), Disorderly Conduct, and Criminal Trespass Third Degree.

James was arraigned in the Justice of the Peace Court #2 and released on his own recognizance. The 32-year-old male from Philadelphia, PA, was charged with Disorderly Conduct and Criminal Trespass Third Degree. He was arraigned in the Justice of the Peace Court #2 and released on his own recognizance.
