Edgemoor (DE) By digital Staff: Delaware State Police are investigating an early Thursday morning pedestrian crash on Governor Printz Blvd that killed one person.
According to police, on September 9, 2021, at approximately 6:12 a.m., a 2019 Jeep Cherokee operated by a 79-year-old male from Claymont was traveling southbound in the left-thru lane of Governor Printz Boulevard approaching the intersection of Rysing Drive.
Police say at the same time, the 65-year-old male pedestrian was walking northbound, closest to the yellow fog line within the southbound left-thru lane. As the Jeep continued in the left lane, the front left struck the pedestrian. After the collision, the operator immediately pulled over to the shoulder and called 9-1-1.
The pedestrian was not wearing any reflective clothing or carrying a lighted device police said and was pronounced deceased at the scene. Identification is pending notification to next of kin.
Governor Printz Boulevard in the vicinity of Rysing Drive was closed to vehicular traffic for approximately two hours during the on-scene investigation.
This collision remains under investigation by the Delaware State Police Troop 2 Collision Reconstruction Unit. Anyone with information regarding the crash should contact Sgt. D.
