58-year-old Wilmington man charged in fatal Mansion Park assault

Investigators say Jones was developed as a suspect during the course of their investigation.

NEW CASTLE (DE) BY DIGITAL STAFF: New Castle County Police say they have made an arrest in the brutal assault in Mansion Park Townhouses that occurred on Friday September 24, 2021.

Police say 58-year-old James Jones is facing one count of felony Murder 2nd degree and is being held behind bars until his trial.

It all happened on Friday September 24, 2021, at approximately 8:30 p.m. Police say patrol officers from the New Castle County Division of Police were dispatched to an assault that had just occurred on the 200 block of Mansion Parkway, in the community of Mansion Park Townhouses .

When the officers arrived, they found 58-year-old. Anthony Lyons suffering from multiple contusions and major blunt force trauma to the head area.  Police said medics responded and the victim was transported to a local area hospital where he was admitted  in critical condition. However, Lyons condition worsened over the days and he succumbed to his injuries on Saturday evening Sept 25, 2021.

Investigators say Jones was developed as a suspect during the course of their investigation.

Jones was arrested after the New Castle County Division of Police Criminal Investigations Unit Special Investigations Squad were conducting surveillance at his Wilmington residence on September 27, 2021. After he was seen leaving his residence, police say he was captured and arrested without incident then taken to New Castle County Police Headquarters.
