Possible explosive device found at Georgetown construction site

The components of the device are being analyzed to determine if the object was a functional explosive device.

GEORGETOWN (DE) BY DIGITAL STAFF: Authorities are investigating a suspicious device found on a Georgetown construction site Friday morning.

Officials say the Delaware Office of the State Fire Marshal is investigating the object that “resembled an explosive device” that was found in the 22000 block of N. Dupont Blvd.

“The Delaware State Fire Marshal’s office is investigating this morning’s discovery of an object found on the construction site in the 22000 block of Dupont Boulevard in Georgetown, Delaware.,” Said Assistant State Fire Marshal Michael Chionchio, in an email.

Chionchio said, First responders were called to the location around 9:00 am when an object on a vehicle at the construction site resembled an explosive device.

The Georgetown Police Department and Delaware State Police – Explosive Ordnance Disposal team arrived on the scene and the area was isolated. The questionable object was rendered safe. No injuries or property damage occurred.

The components of the device are being analyzed to determine if the object was a functional explosive device.
