One dead, one injured in Newark House Fire Thursday morning

The female occupant was pronounced dead at Christiana Hospital and a male is being treated for smoke inhalation.

NEWARK (DE) BY DIGITAL STAFF: An early Thursday morning house fire in Newark has claimed the life of a 75-Year-Old woman and injured a 78-Year-Old man.

Aetna Hose Hook & Ladder Company was called to the scene in the unit block of Augusta Drive in Chestnut Hill Estates around 7:00 a.m. Thursday morning.

According the Delaware Office of the State Fire Marshal, The Aetna Hose, Hook and Ladder Company arrived on the scene with flames shooting from the first floor.

According to assistant state fire marshal, Michael G. Chionchio, “Firefighters rescued a female occupant. The female occupant was pronounced dead at the Christiana Hospital. A male occupant is being treated at the Christiana Hospital for smoke inhalation.”

Heavy fire damage was estimated at $200,000. The cause of this fire remains under investigation, Chionchio said.
