39th person dies to Wilmington gun violence Monday night

Officers were dispatched to the area near 27th and N. Market Street, where they located the 37-year-old victim.

WILMINGTON (DE) BY DIGITAL STAFF: Wilmington Police are investigating a Monday evening shooting that claimed the life of a 37-Year-Old Wilmington man.

Police say the man, who was not identified because his next of kin had not been notified was shot around 7:15 p.m. in the unit block of East 27th Street in the city’s east side Monday.

According to city police, officers were dispatched to the area near 27th and N. Market Street, where they located the 37-year-old victim. He was transported to a local area hospital where police said he later died from his injuries.

Police released no other details about the shooting and cited “This incident remains under investigation and further details will be released when possible.” however, they are encouraging anyone who knows anything about the shooting incident to contact them.

So far this year, 39 people have died as a result of Wilmington gun violence. It’s the highest gun violence year in the city. In 2020, 30 People died and in 2019, 27 people died as a result of Wilmington gun violence.
