Guilford, who remains committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on$34,000 cash-only bail following his arrest on February 15, is pending arraignment on the latest charges
WILMINGTON, DE (DNTV): A Wilmington Police investigation has resulted in charges against a 25-year-oldman in connection with a February 15 fatal shooting incident.
On February 15, 2022, at approximately 9:27 p.m., police were dispatched to the area of10th and Spruce Streets in reference to a shooting incident that had occurred. Officers located a 21-year-old male gunshot victim, later identified as Derek Brown of Wilmington. Brown was transported to the hospital but succumbed to his injuries.
Members of the Safe Streets Task Force, who were responding to the shooting incident, located 25-year-old Shaquan Guilford. Guilford attempted to flee from officers, and was taken into custody in the area of Taylor and Kirkwood Streets. Police recovered a loaded 9mm handgun that had been reported stolen, and Guilford was charged with Possession of a Firearm by a Person Prohibited, Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon, Receiving a Stolen Firearm and Resisting Arrest.
The fatal shooting investigation was assigned to Detective Devon Jones of the Criminal Investigations Division. Through the course of his investigation, Detective Jones identified Guilford as a suspect in the fatal shooting. On March 28, Detective Jones presented the case to the New Castle County Grand Jury, which returned indictments against Guilford on Murder (First Degree) and Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony.
