WILMINGTON (DE) BY DIGITAL STAFF: Governor John Carney announced Monday that he tested positive for COVID-19 through an at-home antigen test, which he took after experiencing mild symptoms.

Governor Carney is vaccinated and double boosted and is currently isolating per the CDC guidelines.

“I am feeling well and will continue to work remotely, but unfortunately will have to miss a few in-person events,” said Governor Carney. “I will continue to follow the CDC guidelines following my positive result.”

The announcement comes following a warning from Dr. Anthony Fauci, the chief medical advisor to the White House. Fauci warned that COVID infections could increase as it has in Delaware.

Delaware has seen a recent rise in COVID cases after the Winter Omicron spike. To date, Delaware has recorded 494 positive cases in the past 7 days, the highest average since February 5 when Delaware was levelling off of the peak of 3,339.4 on January 4.

Hospitalizations are also on the rise. Delaware has 122 cases statewide, with 10 listed as critical. That’s the highest mark since February 20.

And after two years of lockdowns, a growing portion of the country is embracing a return to pre-pandemic normalcy in some form or another.

March polling from the Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research found just 25% of respondents feel “extremely or very worried” about COVID infecting them or a family member. 43% said they are “not at all or not too worried.”

We checked in with the Governor’s Office this evening and there is no change to his symptoms.
