Armored carjacking leaves two Guardia Employees with minor injuries

Police say before fleeing in the Garda truck, the suspect used a stun gun against one of the the victims.

WILMINGTON (DE) BY DIGITAL STAFF: Police are searching for a man who they say carjacked a Garda Armored Truck Friday morning, disarming one of the two female employees, and shooting at least one of them with a stun gun before fleeing.

Delaware State Police are investigating the carjacking incident that occurred at approximately 11:30 a.m., Friday, June 10, 2022 on N. Maryland Avenue near Newport.

According to police, the employees of the Garda truck were exiting the Pabian Properties at 101 N. Maryland Avenue in Wilmington, when they were approached by a male suspect disguised in a Garda uniform. Police say the employees were then assaulted as the suspect displayed a handgun and was able disarm one of them.

Police say before fleeing in the Garda truck, the suspect used a stun gun against one of the the victims.

Troopers located the Garda truck a short distance away in the area of Mansion Road and Mary Street, where the suspect removed an undisclosed amount of cash before abandoning the truck.

The suspect, who was described as a black male approximately 6’ tall, 170 lbs., wearing a mask, and a dark blue Garda uniform, then fled the area in an unknown direction, police said.

The victim sustained minor injuries during the incident and there are no surveillance images available at this time, police said.
