Two Philadelphia Men Are Behind Bars After A Failed Attempt To Flee From Officers During A Traffic Stop By Ramming Their Patrol Cars.

NEW CASTLE (DE) BY DIGITAL STAFF: A man who police say was a suspect in a Home Depot theft investigation attempted to run down an officer as he walked up to the suspects vehicle during a traffic stop in the Airport Plaza Shopping Center on Wednesday June 15, 2022. 
Police say officers were dispatched to the Home Depot in the Airport Plaza Shopping Center for a report of a theft in progress, however, just before arriving, the suspects fled the store.

Police say, the employee who called police gave dispatchers a vehicle description and direction of travel, and when the officers arrived in the shopping center, they couldn’t help but noticed the vehicle fleeing the area towards Sunset Blvd.
That’s when police say the officers turned on their emergency lights and the vehicle stopped in the area of School Lane and Sunset Blvd.
“As one officer began to exit his vehicle to approach the suspects, the driver threw his vehicle into reverse forcing the officer to retreat to his patrol vehicle.” Said Captain Tina Shughart with the New Castle City Police Department. “The suspect rammed the police car then accelerated forward striking a second police car.”
Police were eventually successful in stopping the suspects and taking them into custody and there were no injuries., Shughart said.

The investigation revealed that both Jose Natal, 45 of Philadelphia, and Stephen Bayer, 31, of Philadelphia, entered the Home Depot, loaded a shopping cart with over $1800 worth of merchandise and left the store without paying.
Natal was charged with Reckless Endangering 1st, Organized Retail Crime over $1500, Resisting Arrest with Force, Conspiracy 2nd, Criminal Mischief, and the associated traffic offenses.
Natal was committed to Howard Young Correctional facility in lieu of $14,000 secured bail.
Bayer was charged with Organized Retail Theft over $1500, and Conspiracy 2nd. Bayer was committed to Howard Young Correctional Facility in lieu of $1000 secured bail.
