WILMINGTON (DE): A 49-Year-Old man was critically injured in an early morning Richardson Park house fire Sunday morning, according to the Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office.
According to Michael Chionchio, Assistant State Fire Marshall, the man was rescued by police officers and firefighters when they arrived at the scene at the scene with fire and smoke pouring from the home.
“A 49-year-old male occupant was rescued from the burning apartment by Elsmere Police officers and firefighters. The victim was transported to the Christiana Hospital in critical condition suffering from burns and smoke inhalation.” The man is in critical condition and the officer is doing well, Chionchio said.
The blaze was reported shortly before 2:00 am and occurred in the 300 block of Mary Street in the Richardson Park development near Maryland Avenue. It took multiple fire companies more than an hour to bring the fire under control.
Investigators are currently on the scene searching for the fire’s origin and cause. The structure is a two-story apartment building with two living units. One unit on the first floor and one unit on the second floor.
Two occupants on the 2nd floor escaped unharmed. The American Red Cross is assisting those residents. Heavy fire damage was estimated at $200,000. This fire remains under investigation.
