NEWARK, DE (DNTV): The Newark Police Department is currently investigating an armed carjacking that reportedly occurred on Thursday, November 24, 2022 at approximately 12:32 PM.
Police say the victim reported that they had left a store in The Grove shopping center and were returning to their vehicle, when they were approached by the suspect.
The suspect displayed a handgun to the victim police said, and demanded the keys to the victim’s car. The victim complied with the suspect’s demands and the suspect then drove away from the scene, in the victim’s car, towards Marrows Road.
The victim was not injured during the carjacking., police said.
The suspect who was described as a black male, approximately 6’00” to 6’02” with a thin build and armed with a handgun was identified through forensic evidence as Shane Randall, 28 of Philadelphia.
On February 21, 2023, Randall turned himself in to Newark Police and was charged with Robbery First Degree, Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony, Aggravated Menacing, and Conspiracy Second Degree.
Randall appeared before Justice of the Peace Court #2 by video and was ordered to be held in default of $104,000 cash bail. Randall was turned over to the custody of the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution in Wilmington.
The vehicle has been recovered.
