Story Update 03/17/23: Detectives located and recovered the vehicle and learned Dutton was the operator of the vehicle at the time of the collision.
Michael Dutton has been charged with Vehicular assault in the second degree, Hindering prosecution, Operation of a vehicle causing serious physical injury to a vulnerable user, Leaving the scene of a collision resulting in injury, Driving while suspended or revoked, Failure to report a collision resulting in injury or death, and Removal of a vehicle from the scene of a collision.
He was arraigned and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution in lieu of $3000 secured bail.
BEAR, DE (DNTV): Police are investigating and searching for a suspect after an 8-Year-Old child was struck by a vehicle in the St. Andrews Addition Townhomes Thursday evening.
According to a news release, New Castle County Police were called to the area of Cardiff Way and Hazeltine Lane in the community of St. Andrews Addition Townhouses for the report of a hit and run collision involving a juvenile pedestrian on Thursday at approximately 6:50 p.m.
“Officers arrived on scene and learned an 8-year-old male child had been struck.,” said Police Spokeswoman Tracey Duffy. “He was initially transported to the Christiana Medical Center and then later transferred to A.I. DuPont Children’s Hospital.”
Duffy said that the child is currently listed in stable condition.
Investigators have learned the striking vehicle is a dark in color 2011-2013 Infiniti G37 sedan with right front-end damage. Investigators believe the damage to the vehicle includes the fog light, headlight, and bumper. It is also believed that the vehicle is missing a windshield wiper.
Witnesses reported observing the vehicle flee on Cardiff toward the community.
