A Wilmington Police investigation has resulted in an arrest in connection with a 2018 murder.
WILMINGTON, DE (DNTV): Wilmington Police Detectives have closed a cold case dating back to 2018 police said in a news release.
Police say on October 17, 2018, at approximately 4:00 a.m., officers responded to the unit block of East 23rd Street, in reference to a call for shots fired. Officers arrived and located 25-year-old Blayton Palmer suffering from gunshot wound (s). He was transported to the hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries., police said.
The case was assigned to Detective Brian Conkey of the Criminal Investigations Division and in 2023, the Cold Case Unit – including Cold Case Investigator Steven Rizzo and Detective Devon Jones – continued the investigation, leading to the identification of 25-year-old Charles Jones as a suspect.
The case was presented to the New Castle County Grand Jury police said, and on May 8, and an indictment was returned for Jones.
On May 9, police executed a search warrant in the unit block of Court Drive, and took Jones into custody without incident.
He has been charged with Murder (First Degree), and Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony.
He was arraigned in New Castle County Superior Court and was committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $1,500,000 cash-only bail.
