The Delaware River Bay Authority Police shut down all Northbound lanes while the incident was cleared and the bridge undergo damage inspections.
NEW CASTLE, DE (DNTV): A Tractor Trailer that caught on fire in the Northbound lanes of the Delaware Memorial Bridge caused major traffic congestion throughout New Castle and surrounding areas during rush hour Tuesday night.
Officials say the fire took place near the peak of the bridge around 6:00 p.m.
More than five fire companies responded to the scene to assist in getting the fire under control from Delaware and New Jersey including, Delaware fire companies, Holloway Terrace Fire Company, Wilmington Manor Fire Company, Goodwill Fire Company, Minquadale Fire Company, as well as two fire companies from New Jerey, Mannington Fire Company, and Pedericktown Fire company.

Just after 8 p.m., the furthest left lane – only one of the four lanes in that direction, was reopened, as hazmat crews continued dealing with the damage from the crash.
It’s unknown at this time if the driver of the tractor trailer was injured during the fire or what his condition may be.
