The victim was shot once in his hand, and he later went to the hospital on his own for medical treatment.
NEWARK, DE (DNTV): The Delaware State Police are investigating a shooting that occurred last night in Newark that left one man injured.
Police say on June 2, 2023, at approximately 11:30 p.m., troopers began investigating a shooting after a 52-year-old man responded to the hospital with a gunshot wound.
During an interview at the hospital, Troopers discovered that earlier that night at approximately 10:00 p.m., the victim saw an unknown male driving erratically on northbound Sunset Lake Road. The victim, police say, began arguing with the male when they reached the red light at Sunset Lake Road and Old Baltimore Pike. During the argument, police said, the unknown male shot at the victim several times with a handgun and then fled the scene.
“The victim was shot once in his hand, and he later went to the hospital on his own for medical treatment.,” said police spokesman Senior Corporal Leonard DeMalto.
Police say, the suspect is described as a black male, approximately 20-30 years old, who was driving a 2005-2010 gold Buick LeSabre with an out-of-state registration plate.
Surveillance video and images are not yet available.
The Troop 2 Criminal Investigations Unit is still investigating this incident. Detectives are asking for anyone with information regarding this case to contact Detective M.
