We believe that gun violence happening in our communities should be made public and in 2022, Delaware Newsline began tracking gun violence in Delaware.

To date, the state have not had nor do they have now, a gun violence tracking database and most Data that Delaware Newsline receives comes from local police departments which may include statements that police may have made about a specific shooting incident.

Normally police do not release much information when a shooting occurs, and non-fatal shooting victims’ names are not released. The identities of homicide victims are usually made public, but there were a few times in the past that police failed to release the names of homicide victims. With that said, we question how transparent law enforcement agencies in Delaware really are.

Please know that local Police Departments are not the only source we use but rest assured that Delaware Newsline does not publish stories with unverified information and is committed and determined to tell the stories of those lost beyond the overwhelming Gun Violence in Delaware.

It is hoped that this information will inform and assist those engaged in discussions and activities concerning gun violence, including analysis of proposed regulations or legislation relating to gun safety usage. If you have feedback or would like to talk more about a specific shooting incident, please contact us.
